My name is Kendra Leier, and I am a fourth year student in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina studying Middle Years. I am back at the university finishing off my final three classes of my degree! I just completed my internship in a fantastic grade 6/7 classroom in Regina. Yes, I’ve heard it before, I’m crazy for wanting to teach pre-teen children, but I absolutely love this age group! Just like me, these kids are struggling to fit into an ever-changing world, and trying to figure out who they are. Sure, many of them may not love school, some may even hate it, but I often wonder if that’s because they’ve just never had a teacher really “get” them. Wouldn’t it be great if students could have a teacher who taught THEM, didn’t ignore their learning needs, and really encouraged them to become engaged with the material? This is my goal.
I want to be a teacher who inspires and encourages kids to think, to wonder, and to investigate. I want to be a teacher who supports her students and helps them discover their own styles and methods of learning. I want to be an amazing teacher. (Check out my full teaching philosophy here)
Yes, these are highly philosophical, and some may say unachievable, but those people don’t know me. I am driven, creative, and very passionate about what I do. I truly hope that my experiences in university, and in the classrooms I have spent time in, will help prepare me for what I might find within the walls of current classrooms, and that I, in turn, can have an impact on what those classrooms might look like in the future.
In addition to loving the world of education, I also own and operate Adamo Rhythmic Gymnastics in Regina, SK, where I coach gymnasts aged 4 to 21. I also love travelling, music, reading, and photography! I have found many ways to incorporate these loves into my educational world, and vice versa. It is a great thing when all of your passions can be combined into your career!
I am very excited to be on this journey to becoming an educator, and look forward to meeting amazing people along the way. If you’d like to contact me please do so below!
